Skill Building for Students

Skill Building for Success supports students in building the non-academic skills that are needed to be successful in college and careers.

Why is Skill Building for Success important?

It is important for Stamford Public Schools’ students to graduate high school prepared for their next step. Colleges and employers say that students need strong non-academic skills–essential skills–such as teamwork, communication, and problem solving–to be successful in that transition to post-secondary, college and career.

What can you do to build your skills?

Use our Student Skill Tracker! With the Student Skill Tracker, you can keep track of the opportunities you are having in high school, whether it be joining a school club or a community organization, and connect it to one of the essential skills. This helps you articulate the experiences you are having and the skills you are gaining to colleges and employers.

Action Plans

To effectively measure and identify effective practices while aligning resources, we have designed and developed a detailed Action Plan process. The process and the related template were created in close partnership with Stamford Public Schools and the Superintendent’s team. This process is consistently followed by all CANs. Each CAN is at a different stage of action plan completion, depending on the complexity of its objectives and the available data.
