SNAP 101 Trainings:

We will be hosting a series of “SNAP 101” trainings, in partnership with End Hunger CT!, that will occur monthly in both English and Spanish. Send staff members to these trainings to learn the tools, facts, and language necessary for encouraging eligible families to sign up for SNAP and HUSKY and addressing common questions and misconceptions about these programs.
Our training will be held on Zoom on the following date:

Measuring Success

24% 2021: 1 in 4 children in CT were food insecure, meaning that they do not have access at all times to enough food for an active, healthy life (Feeding America)

Million 2021-2022: 2.3 million meals served in SPS (breakfast & lunch) –54% YoY Increase 2020-2021 to 2021-2022 with free meal waivers

Currently, SPS has a 40.8% Identified Student Percentage (ISP) and is receiving 64% reimbursement, the District is seeking 50%+ ISP to remain financially sustainable at 80% reimbursement

The Food for Thought campaign is building a community of universal school meal advocates to ensure that every student in Stamford has access to free school meals, by maximizing SNAP and HUSKY participation. SNAP and HUSKY are non-reporting programs that promote food and healthy equity and contribute to SPS’s ISP – applicant information is completely confidential and does not impact immigration processes.

What is SNAP?

SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps) is a federal program that provides eligible households with a monthly benefit that they can use to buy food at participating grocery stores, farmers’ markets and other places that accept EBT cards. SNAP is the nation’s largest nutrition assistance program – it is a proven anti-hunger and anti-poverty program that reaches millions each year.
