Early Grade Reading Community Action Network

Reading on Grade Level by 3rd Grade

Works with Stamford Public Schools staff and out-of-school providers to ensure that all Stamford children will be reading at or above grade level by the end of 3rd grade.

Stamford Summer Literacy Initiative

The Stamford Literacy Initiative (SSLI) is a free program that provides reading support and a literacy-rich environment within selected Stamford summer camps. While summer is a time for outdoor activities and fun, it also can result in loss of learning and reading skills without consistent reading and learning activities. SSLI provides:

    • Literacy teachers who conduct small group reading instruction for campers in grades K-3
    •  Professional development and coaching for coach camp staff to infuse literacy into regular camp activities
    • City-wide public awareness campaign for summer reading in partnership. with the Ferguson Library and their summer learning program
Professional Development

Stamford Cradle to Career helps create alignment between literacy instruction in school and literacy support in after-school programs. We coordinate with Stamford Public Schools, the Ferguson Library, and other partners to provide free, ongoing professional development opportunities for the staff of community center, after-school, and summer camp programs.

Recent topics covered include oral language, phonics, screenings and assessments, online resources, and supporting social-emotional wellness.

#RaiseAReader

#RaiseAReader is an awareness campaign that shares and promotes simple ways that parents and caregivers can raise children who love to read. We believe parents and caregivers are a child’s first and most important teachers. Six videos, in both English and Spanish, demonstrate five simple activities that families can practice anywhere to raise a reader: talking, singing, playing, reading, and writing.
