Howard C. Kaplan Memorial Lecture on Law and Society: Changing the Law by Changing the Lawyers

James FormanJr., the J. Skelly Wright Professor of Law at Yale Law School, will present atalk on Changing the Law by Changing the Lawyers at the Howard C. KaplanMemorial Lecture on Law and Society.

Can the shapeof what lawyers do in our society be reformed by changing the characteristicsof who succeeds in gaining admission to law school?

ProfessorForman is a Pulitzer Prize-winning author with an interest in the consequencesof mass incarceration. He is also the founder of Yale’s Access to Law Schoolprogram that has mentored first generation, low-income, minority candidates,many of whom are social activists, and some of whom are formerly incarcerated,for admission to law schools. He will be joined by former program participantsNatalie Smith and Christian Aviles to discuss this issue.
