Home Visiting

Early Childhood Childcare and Education (Infants-Preschool)

- Stamford School Readiness Program – was established to provide three and four-year-olds of all economic levels with quality full-day, school day, or part-day early care and education programs. Preschool develops children’s social, emotional, and cognitive skills. Click here for more information.

Kindergarten
Beginning with the 2024-25 school year, children will need to be five years old on or before September 1 of the school year to be automatically eligible for kindergarten in Connecticut Public Schools. There is a provision in the law that allows parents to seek an exemption from the September 1 cut off.

Early Kindergarten Assessment
If your child turns 5 years old on or after September 2, 2024, you may apply for early kindergarten admission for your child. The early admission process will include a play-based assessment by certified Stamford Public Schools preschool or kindergarten teachers. Early Literacy
Promoting early literacy means building basic reading skills. Support your child by reading or telling stories regularly, using pictures in books, and talking to them every day
