State Education Resource Center:

SERC in collaboration with the CSDE will develop and present bi-weekly Talk Tuesday sessions. Talk Tuesdays are a “drop-in” networking opportunity that provides district and school staff an opportunity to learn about “what’s new”, hear from topic area experts and support each other and their work to improve student attendance and engagement. Virtual sessions are held bi-weekly and engage state agency, district and school staff in an open dialogue around student attendance and engagement.

 

Attendance & Engagement System of Support & Professional Communities- Talk Tuesdays

 Tuesday, February 6, 2024 from 10 am to 11 am. Multi-Day

Target Audience: Open to all in education (PreK-12) and education related agencies.

Schedule: Sessions are held virtually on alternating Tuesday mornings, 10 to 11:00 a.m.

Classroom Practices for Improving Student Learning and Behavior Day 1 of 5

Thursday, January 18th, 9:00-10:30 AM (ET)

In this series of professional learning opportunities, participants will better understand their role in creating inclusive classroom environments for all learners. The sessions will cover 10 evidence-based strategies in proactive behavior management in a flexible system that can be adapted to any classroom environment. Participants will learn about strategies in building relationships in the classroom, embedding the language of expectations into praise and correction, escalation and de-escalation, and classroom implementation of behavior support plans. High-leverage instructional practices to support academic progress, along with specific literacy strategies, will be covered.

Grade Level: K-12

The Impact of Childhood Trauma for Students of Color – Day 1 of 2

Wednesday, February 7, 2024 & February 21, from 9:00 am-10:30 am

This professional learning opportunity will provide an understanding of at least three symptoms of traumatic stress in children and adolescents of color, evidence-based practices for working with these students, and related trauma-informed interventions that can be implemented in schools.

Paraeducator Webinar Series: Executive Function 101

Friday, February 23, 2023, from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm

The session titled above will be held virtually through Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent to registered participants two (2) hours before the start of the session.

Executive function is a set of mental skills that include working memory, flexible thinking, and self-control. We use these skills every day to learn, work, and manage daily life. In this training, participants will develop an understanding of the basics of executive function, discuss why executive function skills are important, and learn how to support students in using executive function skills.

Stamford Youth Mental Health Alliance:

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

Monday, February 12, 2024 from 9am – 4:30 pm

The Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training is designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. It will introduce the common mental health challenges for youth, review typical adolescent development and teach a five-step action plan for how to help young people in a crisis and non-crisis situation.

The training includes:

  • Common signs and symptoms of mental health conditions in this age group that included anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit  hyperactive disorder (ADHD).
  • How to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis.
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges.
  • How to connect youth with help.
  • Expanded content on trauma, substance use, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying.
